Inspections

Massachusetts local boards of health are charged with a complex set of responsibilities including enforcement of state sanitary, environmental, housing, and health codes. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Protection of the food supply through inspections of restaurants and other food establishments
  • Inspections and permitting of septic systems, solid waste facilities, composting sites, and recycling centers
  • Inspections of pools, beaches, camps, hotels, mobile home parks, and body art facilities
  • Enforcement of state sanitary code in housing
  • Maintaining numerous records and retaining them for required minimum retention periods
NBCPHA's Regional Inspector aids each of our 6 Local Health Department in carrying out these actions. You can learn more about your town or city's inspection guidelines on their websites, which can be found by scrolling to the Communities Served Header on this page

One great example of inspection reporting in our region can be found on Taunton's Health Department site: Food Service & Retail Food Establishment Inspection Reports.
